Popis
DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) appears every day in our mouth. Really! DNA is a part of the food we eat.
It doesn't matter whether you like a breaded steak, tofu, rice, noodles, apples or chocolate – DNA is inside everything. Our food is originally from plants, animals and mushrooms, in other words, organisms formed by cells. In the nuclei of cells we find the genetic material – DNA, where the genes are.
Aim of the course:
- Why children have similar traits as their parents?
- What substance is responsible for our characteristic traits?
- Where is our genetic material located?
- All organisms contain DNA!
- What is the genetic code? (Do not get too much into the chemical details!)
- How can we isolate DNA from cells?
Practical activities:
- Isolation of DNA from fruits and vegetables
- Writing and deciphering a secret message using the genetic code
- Folding a DNA model
- Determining dominant and recessive traits
This course takes 2 hours.
